Football in Spain, for much of its history, has seen a duopoly of the 2 of its richest clubs- Real Madrid and Barcelona and there have been very few instances wherein the stronghold has been broken successfully. 2013/14 season was the latest campaign wherein the 2 Spanish bigwigs were outclassed and the team to do it was Atletico Madrid, who claimed the league title for the 10th time in their history.
Very often, the maestro behind a team’s success is the man patrolling the dugout, the headcoach and in case of Los Colchoneros, Diego Simeone, former Ateltico Madrid player, is that maestro, the architect of Atleti’s re-emergence. The Argentine has led a revolution ever since he took over the reigns and has molded his side into a major European force which is to be reckoned with.
Atletico Madrid won the Europa League, Copa del Rey, La Liga and lately, the Spanish Supercup, all under the stewardship of the 44-year old anchorman and what was more staggering is that Simeone did all of it with limited resources and the stock which he had at his disposal, unlike their aforementioned, richie rich rivals. The Atletico manager reached the peak of his managerial career when he made it to the top 3 for the ‘Best Coach of the Year 2014’ honor. Albiet he lost out on it to his Germany counterpart Joechim Low, that still doesn’t adumbrate the fact that he is one of the best managers in world football today.
The question now arises is what are the factors behind it? What makes Simeone one of the best in the business ? Let’s delve deeper to find out.
His tactical brilliance
The foremost aspect which plays a huge role in a manager’s success is the tactics that he employs and Diego Simeone has got it right for most of the time. The success he has brought to the club since his arrival, reaffirms it.
Simeone has the knack to flex his tactics according to the challenge posed by the rival team and churn out the desired result by hook or by crook. This efficacy of his is something very few managers out there can match. A commanding figure from the touchline, Simeone is discerning enough to read the game and sniff out danger.
His ‘soke up pressure and hit them on the break’ policy proved to be a master-stroke as his side got the better of fancy oppositions such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea.
His tactical astuteness has made him what he is today and stands as one of the bright sparks in football’s management sector.
His ability to transform a laughing stock into world beaters
A midtable outfit, a paltry budget, a bunch of raw talents and despite these inadequacies, formed a team that made waves all over. Sounds familiar,  doesn’t it ? Let me remind you, the team that endured a similar fate and even before Atletoco was Borussia Dortmund who emerged from the shadows of Bayern Munich and restored domestic hegemony. Although the tables have turned again and Dortmund are now languishing in the drop zone, the revolution that their supremo Jurgen Klopp led during the turn of the decade, was the one to remember.
Just like his Atletico counterpart, Klopp too, had a raw talent and unestablished players at his disposal that weren’t ready to take on fancy oppositions, but he transmogrified them into a world beater with his nous and now stand as one of the most formidable sides in Europe. Simeone has had a similar story as Atletico were lagging behind the big 2 by great margin when he took over the hotseat but tinkered with the choices available at him and transformed them in a force that they are now.

In an era where power and money have taken over, the success of a team, nowadays, is built around the marquee players they possess within the squad. However, Simeone proved the hypothesis wrong by his adroit nous and also exemplified the fact that you do not always need money to attain success.
The close bond he shares with his employees and the confidence he harbours
One of the less spoken yet critical factor in a team’s success is the bond which players share with their managers and vice versa. A great manager is the one who is an inspirational figure to his players and shares camaraderie with his players and Simeone is just that.

The Argentine has instilled faith within his players and thats what keeps them going. Los Colchoneros captain Gabi corroborated this fact when he once said, “Whether people like or not, he has made us better. He instilled belief in us, that we can win, and has made us better.”

In this modern time, all that most of the managers are after is producing results, come hell or high water. There is no room for something called emotion. And this flaw, at some point of time, has had negative ramifications on the outcome. However, this pertinent point of trusting one’s players is another aspect that makes Simeone a class apart. His message of team work, unity, respect and faith has hit home and has perfectly inculcated the same in his players.
The Argentine believes there’s no team out there that Atletico can’t beat and the same confidence is seen in his players and that has played an influential role in their recent success.

  1. He is one of the best footballers in the world

The primary inspiration behind why we as a whole love Antoine Griezmann is basic – he is one of the best footballers on the planet. He and Luis Suarez are two ludicrously gifted footballers who have figured out how to be appropriate in the blend for the verbal confrontation about the best footballer of 2016. There is a case to be made that if the aftereffects of the two finals the couple included in (Champions League and Euro) had been distinctive, Griezmann may have been delegated the best to the detriment of Ronaldo. While alternate names all end up nearing or past their thirties, Griezmann still has a long profession in front of him to engage us – and if his season via season transfer so far is anything to pass by, we will have ourselves one astounding footballer to discuss for quite a long time.
