9.Zidane’s infamous headbutt on Metarazzi

Another French legend, Zinadine Zidane was playing his last game for Les Blues in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy. Having scored the opener from the spot, Italy equalised through Marco Metarazzi and the game went into extra-time. That is when controversy struck.

The Azzurri defender was reported to have provoked Zidane by bad mouthing about his sister that culminated in the infamous headbutt that the Frenchman planted on his chest.

Zidane was straight away given the marching orders and his legendary career, sadly, ended in a really bitter note. Italy later went on to claim the World Cup glory in a penalty shoot-out, to rub more salt on Zidane’s wounds.
