The London club’s current crest came back in ’01 when the club regained their premier league status. However, despite the club’s promotion, a survey indicated that only a mere 14% of their fans could recognize the club’s crest. The stat in itself was a huge disappointment to which the owner Shahid Khan responded with plans for a new crest. The club betrayed their traditional coat of arms in order to attain a more distinctive and modern style. However, the club’s supporters did not take the idea with a lot of enthusiasm, as they were unhappy with the club’s methods of announcing the plans for a new crest.
