5 Players Mourinho Needs to Replace In January

  1. Oscar

Throughout his managerial career, Mourinho has never had a great affection for slight players who are more about guile than power. Unfortunately for Oscar he fits into this category, providing supreme technical ability but not great pace or strength.

The Brazilian has never been a guaranteed starter during Mourinho’s second spell at Stamford Bridge, and so far this season, the manager has preferred to play the highly impressive Willian in the number 10 role. As he begins to enter the peak of his playing days, Oscar may look elsewhere for regular football, and Chelsea will need to bring in a high quality replacement to provide competition for their attacking midfielders.

5 Strikers Who Can Replace Diego Costa At Chelsea

1. Tammy Abraham

A pure Chelsea product, it would be a refreshing to watch an academy graduate get a crack with the first team. Not just that, but Tammy Abraham is also proving to be a prodigious talent at Bristol City where he is currently on loan.

The 19-year old teen has already accrued a stunning 17 goals in all competitions for the Championship side, whereas his pace and keen eye for goal also draws parallel to Costa.

2. Alvaro Morata

If Abraham was an untested quantity, then Morata is a proven one. The Spaniard has proved his scoring prowess with both Real Madrid and Juventus, and can be a really good addition to Antonio Conte’s side.

Morata is experiencing a lack of game time as Benzema stands ahead of him in the pecking order, prompting rumors of a move elsewhere.

Morata is still only 24 and yet to hit the peak, so having him in the team can also provide a long term solution to the striker issue.

3. Romelu Lukaku

Wait, we’ve been here before, remember? Lukaku was a Chelsea man back in 2014 attempting to make his way into the first team. However, the arrival of Didider Drogba back to Chelsea prompted a move to Everton, where he has been proving himself ever since.

The Belgian hotshot is one of uber-shining lights for the Toffees, scoring goals on any given day. He’s proven to be a reliable choice upfront, and how Chelsea must be kicking themselves for letting him go.

Proper game time and first team chances are a must for Lukaku, if this move is to ever materialize.

4. Mauro Icardi

The Argentinian wizard is long rumored to join a Premier League side, but his commitment to Inter Milan seems to last a few more years.

Mauro Icardi has been a consistent scorer for the Nerazzurris over the years, so his productivity in the final third is something Chelsea can be really positive about.

5. Andrea Belotti

Last but not the least, Antonio Conte can look behind on one of his own former players in Andrea Belotti, who worked under when the former managed Italy.

Belotti’s penchant for scoring from set-pieces and crosses will really please Conte, who followed a similar philosophy at Juventus.

A lethal finisher, Belotti has the potential to be a like-for-like replacement for Costa and having worked under Conte before, he won’t take much time to settle in the side.

5 Things Chelsea Must Continue Doing To Be On The Winning End Of The Title Race

  1. Stay disciplined:

One thing we have noticed about Chelsea this season is that they have been very disciplined with their gameplay. The back five have done superbly well to work hard and stop oppositions from scoring. Victor Moses and Marcus Alonso have tirelessly did some good work as the wing-backs and it is necessary that they continue to do so and that is the area where most teams look for creativity. A dip in form in either of the back five can lead to a costly mistake which Chelsea cannot afford at this stage. Conte needs to make sure his team remain disciplined in the same way that helped them win 13 consecutive matches.
