It has been rhetoric by now, watching budding Dutch talents moving to England for a higher platform to showcase themselves. This year, Giorginio Wijnaldum joined the conveyor belt and was roped in by Newcastle United.

Signed from PSV Eindhoven, the midfielder garnered attention last season when he helped his side break Ajax’s hoodoo and clinch the Dutch league title. Wijnaldum scored 14 times for side and was one of the highest scorers of the league.

Many suitors came knocking his door but, the Toons surprisingly captured his services, outmanoeuvring some big guns.
